# Calendar and bookings

## Booking types

A booking type has a duration, buffers before and after, weekly availability, minimum notice, a booking horizon and an optional daily maximum. It can ask the questions of a form. Each type has a public page of the form `/book/<handle>/<name>`.

## What your helper can do

- List upcoming bookings and read one.
- Show the free start times the public page offers.
- Book a guest in by hand, for example after a message. The guest receives an email and a private link.
- Reschedule to another free slot, or cancel. The guest is told by email.

Changes are checked against the calendar. Messages that reach a customer wait in [approvals](/docs/approvals/).

## Classes and lessons

A workshop or a lesson is just a booking type. Pair it with a [pack](/docs/packs-and-memberships/) if people buy several sessions at once.
